Luk 13:1-5 There were some present at that very time who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. And he answered them, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans, because they suffered in this way? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish. Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem? No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

That is Jesus’ call, “Unless you repent, you will perish.” People tend to think that Jesus came that we can have stuff, or live without problems. Wrong! Jesus came to save us from the bondage of sin. He promises nothing of value in this world, but rather tells us to store up our treasures in heaven. Where our treasures are, that is where our heart will be. I said all that to say this, if we come to Jesus and acknowledge we have sinned against Him, repent (turn from sin), and trust Him for salvation, we will be saved. Repent or you will perish.

  3. Every time I read or hear the word ‘repent’, I take a slow, deep breath.

It is a word that one does not often hear and has not often been heard out of many pulpits in recent years. It is a forgotten word, an often ignored word, but one that is so desperately needed to be shouted from the rooftops as in the days of Wesley and Finney and Spurgeon and others like them.

It is a small word, but is large and heavy with eternal meaning. It is a word that God uses to bring about the most incredible agony inside your mind and body - where you feel your heart is going to break in two and yet it does not, but you wish it would so that the agony would stop.

It does stop eventually, but only when God has finished cleaning out everything that is not needed or wanted by Him, in your heart and life.

Then it is a sweet agony. A knowledge that the Most High has saved you and you are left forever more, changed.

I agree. The fact that God even gives us a chance to repent is amazing. We are so undeserving of anything the Creator would give us. Thank You Lord!
